Member Event: Rep Rap Build Group
Thursday 6:30pm
We're having a member group build event this coming Thursday to start building a Rep Rap.
The Rep Rap is 3D Printer, similar to our industrial Dimension 768SST rapid prototyping machine, or as explained on Rep Rap's Website (www.reprap.org)
"Look at your computer setup and imagine that you hooked up a 3D printer. Instead of printing on bits of paper this 3D printer makes real, robust, mechanical parts. To give you an idea of how robust, think Lego bricks and you're in the right area. You could make lots of useful stuff, but interestingly you could also make most of the parts to make another 3D printer. That would be a machine that could copy itself. "

In order to build the RepRap, Club Workshop will use our 3D printer to build the initial set of custom parts, with the Members build group teaming up to purchase the remaining build materials & circuitry. Depending on the number of people participating in the build, we expect that to be about $50 per person.
Once built, the Rep Rap will be housed at Club Workshop, with members who participated in the build having access to the machine for just the cost of raw materials, with other users paying a nominal fee.
We'll work out all the details at the first meeting, including how to tackle the task, if we want to split up into build teams, and when the group will meet.
The build group is for members only, however non members will be welcome at the first meeting. This being a great opportunity to sign up and benefit from the knowledge of the group. Also, any time spent by punchcard members while working on the RepRap will not be counted against their punches.
